Description

Originally from Germany, the Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin) is a small, robust dog with a lively and lovable personality. They are active, curious and entertaining, the Miniature Pinscher is not for the peaceful household. Despite its small size, the Min Pin is a strong, athletic dog with the spirit of a hunter and watchdog.

Characteristics

Miniature Pinschers are for experienced dog owners. Many people underestimate the care, time, and effort needed in order to raise a Miniature Pinscher. The Miniature Pinscher is an assertive, outgoing, active, and independent breed. Miniature Pinschers are a stubborn breed when it comes to training, but once trained they will obey commands well.

Health Problems

Min Pins are prone to Patellar Luxation (dislocated knees), Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease (degeneration of the hip joint) and PRA a condition that over time causes blindness.

Exercise

Min Pins are very active, energetic dogs that need plenty of daily exercise.

Grooming

Its coat is smooth, shiny, and very short. The Min Pin requires no more than basic grooming. Its coat should be brushed weekly or more to maintain a healthy, shiny appearance. The breed tends to be relatively low shedding.

Living Environment

Miniature pinschers are energetic but most Miniature Pinschers burn much of their energy playing indoors and do not require large spaces to exercise.

Did you know...

The Miniature Pinscher was originally bred in Germany to hunt vermin, primarily rats, in homes and stables. Many people think that they were developed by breeding Dobermans to progressively smaller sizes, and indeed, they look similar to Dobermans. However, the Min Pin is a distinct and much older breed.
