Description
The largest of the spaniel family, the Irish Water Spaniel has long low-set ears that are covered in curls, webbed feet that are good for swimming, and long loose curls all over its body. It has a topknot of curls on its head.
Temperament
Smart, loyal, energetic, eager and a great family dog, the Irish Water Spaniel barks only to warn the family.
Health problems
This breed could be prone to hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, eye entropion and ear infections.
Exercise
The Irish Water Spaniel has huge stamina and need daily vigorous exercise. It really enjoys retrieving and swimming.
Grooming
The curly coat needs to be combed weekly and trimmed regularly because it matts easily. This breed sheds little to no hair.
Living conditions
This dog will do best in the suburbs or country where it will thrive in the outdoors. Apartment living is not suitable: this breed will do best with at least an average-sized backyard.
Origin
The Irish Water Spaniel comes from Dublin and was traditionally used for hunting on land and water.
